Abu Dhabi Chalk another record to the United Arab Emirates’ collection.
Capital Gate, owned and developed by Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Company, has been certified as the ‘World’s Furthest Leaning Manmade Tower,’ by Guinness World Records.
The 160-metre, 35-storey Capital Gate tower has been built to lean 18 degrees westwards, nearly five times farther than the Leaning Tower of Pisa in Italy. Now fully completed, the tower will house the 5 Star ‘Hyatt Capital Gate’, as well as 20,000sqm of the most exclusive office space in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates.
But unlike the tower in Pisa, the Capital Gate building has been deliberately engineered to slant.
The floor plates are stacked vertically up to the 12th floor, after which they are staggered over each other by between 300 mm to 1,400 mm — giving the tower its lean, the owners said.
