‘Urban Living’, is an unavoidable circumstance in today’s context which is common to any country in the world.

Amidst the busy streets of Mount Lavinia, this unassuming house, occupying a tight niche is approached by a narrow by-lane. Archt Sagara Jayasinghe envisioned a straightforward and homely design that he could call home.

The wide timber doors at the entrance open into a gravel courtyard with a reflecting pool at the western end. The pond’s black tiled surface mirrors the earth – coloured walls of the building while light and shadows cast a playful show.

The People’s Leasing Company Headquarters – desinged by the architechts at Design Group Five – is a building that incorporates many new materials and technology in its architecture, bringing forth some novel elements perviously unseen in Sri Lanka.
